A Reminder on Peak Hours, Express Service Hours and Different Functions of Various Windows at the Visa Hall


With the increase of application during the peak period, the lines and waiting time keep getting longer. To help you reduce waiting time and find the right window, we would like to draw your attention to the following:

A. Please try to avoid the following peak days and hours:

   1. For submission of application: 

  •  whole day Monday and Tuesday; 
  •  Wednesday through Friday after 10:00; 
  •  the first two days following a statutory holiday

  2. For pick-up of visa or documents: 

  • whole day Monday and Friday;
  • Tuesday through Thursday between 11:30 and 13:30;
  •  the first two days following a statutory holiday

To speed up the process, it is recommended that applicants

  • read instructions in advance at relevant websites



         get all paperwork in order, and

  • arrive at the Visa Office before 9:00.
  • Please note that the Visa Office is open at 8:30-14:30 and submission of application begins at 9:00. 

B.   Please take note of the following with regard to express services:

1.  Same day visa service is suspended in the months of May, June and July, 2011;

2.  Request for same day authentication and second day visa services are accepted at Windows # 1-6 between 9:00 and 12:00.  Please arrive before 9:00 to ensure that your application is successfully submitted before 12:00.


C.  Functions of various windows:

Application for visa and authentication, and the pick-up of visa/documents are processed on the first floor of the Passport and Visa Office. Functions of various windows are as follows:

      1.  Window #1:  

  •  Visa application by holders of diplomatic or service/official passports;
  •  Application for notarization by Chinese passport holders;

    2.  Windows #3 - 6: 

  • Application for visa by ordinary passport holders;
  • Visa/Entry Permit for Hong Kong SAR;
  • Application for authentication.
  • Please note that Window #6 is exclusively reserved for registered agents;

3.  Window #9: Pick-up Form drop off

4.  Windows #8 &10: Payment and visa/documents pick-up as directed on the chip you will receive from Window #9.
