2018/03/20

On March 15, 2018, the opening ceremony of "The Beauty of Chinese Characters"2018 Global Youth Design Contest was held at the Chinese Consulate General in San Francisco. Consul General Luo Linquan delivered a speech. Well-known Chinese scholars Yu Dan, Wang Lijun and Chen Nan introduced the beauty of Chinese Characters from different perspectives. Calligrapher Yan Kui interacted with the audience. Around 200 guest, including students learning Chinese and their parents attended the event.

Luo pointed out that if you want to find the true beauty of Chinese characters, you have to see them from Chinese view. You will not have great insight to the Chinese square graphic characters from the view of alphabetic writings, such as English, Spanish and French. The best way to understand a county's thinking model, development path, policy-making and behaviors is to learn its history, philosophy, language and interact with its people. It's very important to rise above the difference of our cultures and social systems. In order to communicate effectively, live peacefully and realize common development, China and the Unites State should respect each other and learn from each other.

Luo also emphasized the value of harmony in Chinese culture. He pointed out that harmony is the most precious and harmony but not sameness are deeply rooted in the Chinese culture. This is the philosophy that underlies China's proposal to build a community of shared future with all other countries. This is the philosophy that inspires us to foster a new type of international relations.

The opening ceremony was hosted by Chinese Consulate General in San Francisco and Beijing Constitute of Culture Innovation and Communication.
