Assistant Minister Wu Hongbo Attends Closing Ceremony of the Workshop for European Diplomats & Party for Sino-European Diplomats

On June 16, 2009, Assistant Minister Wu Hongbo attended the Closing Ceremony of the Workshop for European Diplomats & Party for Sino-European Diplomats. On behalf of Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Assistant Minister Wu extended congratulations on the success of the 4th Workshop for European Diplomats and congratulated all the participants on their successful completion of the training program. He reviewed the magnificent achievements scored in China-EU relations over more than 30 years since the establishment of the diplomatic ties, which are now featured by multi-dimensional cooperation in a variety of fields at all levels. At the same time, he pointed out that there are also conflicts and differences between China and the EU due to their different development level, social systems, histories, cultures, and traditions. He stressed that China and the EU should stick to the strategic partnership, focus on practical cooperation, keep abreast of the times and follow the relevant important principles, in an effort to push forward the sound and steady development of the bilateral relations.

Deputy Director-General Wang Hongjian made summarizing remarks regarding the workshop. Ambassador and Head of the Delegation of the European Commission to China H.E. Serge Abou and representatives of the participants of the workshop also delivered speeches, saying that the workshop held by the Chinese side conforms to the current political situations, is of great realistic importance, and can help European diplomats better know China's national conditions and policies. They also expressed thanks to the Chinese side for hospitality extended to them. After that, Assistant Minister Wu presented certificates of completion to all the participants in person.

Following the closing ceremony, Chinese and European diplomats put on a variety of performances, which were concluded in a friendly and jubilant atmosphere.
