Your Excellency Secretary Leong Vai Tac,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Good morning! It's a great pleasure for me to attend the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Forum. It is of great significance for representatives from Chinese and foreign governments, academia, business communities and other fields to gather here today to provide their insightful suggestions to push forward the development of the Greater Bay Area. On behalf of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), which is the co-organizer of this event, I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to the forum!
The development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is a national strategy President Xi Jinping has planned for and promoted in person. It is a further step in taking forward the practice of “one country, two systems” and will ,undoubtedly, provide broader development space and stronger development momentum for Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao.
Greater bay areas are important growth engines of the world economy. The bay areas of New York, San Francisco and Tokyo are all drivers of global economic development and leaders of technological innovation. Since the reform and opening up, especially the return of Hong Kong and Macao to China, Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao have deepened cooperation with each other. With strong economic strength, outstanding resource allocation capacity and irreplaceable geographical advantages, they have already had a solid foundation for developing into a world-class bay area. And, there has never been any precedent like the Greater Bay Area, which is established under the conditions of one country, two systems, three customs territories and three currencies. It’s a groundbreaking undertaking, demanding the courage to venture, to try out, and to explore a new path. In this process, we need the experiences of other mature bay areas, and more importantly, understanding and support from all sectors of international community. My organization, the CPAFFC has been engaged in the undertakings of people-to-people friendly relations for 65 years. With the purposes of enhancing people's friendship, furthering international cooperation, safeguarding world peace and promoting common development, it has established relationship of friendly cooperation with nearly 500 nongovernment organizations and institutions in 157 countries. Entrusted by the government, CPAFFC also coordinates and oversees the work of establishing and developing friendship-city relations between China and other countries. Over the years, we have been active in expanding the "Circle of Friends" and building the "Bridge of Cooperation", and have played a positive role in deepening the exchanges between China and other countries in fields of politics, economy, culture and etc.
This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the 22nd anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to China and the 20th anniversary of Macao’s return to China. CPAFFC stands ready to, as always, make joint efforts with all sectors at home and abroad to contribute to the development of the Greater Bay Area. We are deeply convinced that with the leadership of Chief Executive of HKSAR Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor and the support of mainland China, Hong Kong will have a better tomorrow! We are deeply convinced that the construction of Greater Bay Area will promoted coordinated development of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau and make a better life for the people!
