President Xi Jinping Meets with President Vladimir Putin of Russia

On 7 October 2013, President Xi Jinping met in Bali Island, Indonesia with President Vladimir Putin of Russia. The heads of state of the two countries exchanged views on China-Russia comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership as well as issues of mutual interest in an intimate and warm atmosphere.

Xi Jinping expressed, this is our fifth meeting within the year. It fully proves the high level and special nature of China-Russia relations. This year is a bumper year of China-Russia relations. The two heads of state have effectively led the all-dimensional development of China-Russia relations. Bilateral practical cooperation as well as people-to-people and cultural exchanges have yielded a series of positive outcomes with close coordination in international affairs. Both sides should work together to prepare for important activities including the Regular Meeting between Chinese and Russian Prime Ministers and the closing ceremony of the Chinese Tourism Year in Russia, to optimize the trade structure, to deepen cooperation in the field of energy and resources, to actively explore cooperation in high-tech, emerging industries and other fields and to continue to maintain close communication and cooperation in international affairs.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Russia share extensive common interests in the Asia-Pacific. China is ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with Russia to jointly maintain security, stability, development and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific.

Putin expressed, I am very glad to meet with President Xi Jinping today to exchange views on the future development of bilateral relations. Russia-China relations now enjoy sound development with frequent exchanges between the leaders of the two countries. The exchanges and cooperation in the economic, trade, military-to-military, people-to-people and cultural fields have been unceasingly strengthened with effective cooperation in major international and regional issues. The Russian side is glad to see the activities of the Chinese Tourism Year in Russia being rich and colourful. Looking to the future, Russia-China relations enjoy broad prospects for development. I am ready to continue to maintain intimate friendship and close exchanges with President Xi Jinping, so as to further push forward practical cooperation in all fields, to effectively implement energy, infrastructure construction and other major cooperation projects and to strengthen communication and coordination in international affairs.

The two heads of state agreed that they will personally pay attention to and supervise the implementation of bilateral consensus and agreements, and instruct relevant departments of the two countries to strengthen communication through various mechanisms and to make full efforts in pushing for the implementation of bilateral cooperation projects in all fields.

The two heads of state agreed that the year 2015 is the 70th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War. China and Russia had made great sacrifices for and contributions to the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War. Both sides will by then hold commemorative activities to bear in mind the history, inherit the past and forge ahead into the future. This will be an event of great and far-reaching significance.

Xi Jinping at request introduced China's current economic situation, the prospects of China's reform and opening, the self-building of the CPC and other aspects. Putin wished China's major deployments successes.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and others were present at the meeting.
