President Xi Jinping Meets with ROK President Park Geun-hye

On 7 October 2013, President Xi Jinping met in Bali Island, Indonesia with ROK President Park Geun-hye.

Xi Jinping expressed that President Park Geun-hye paid a visit to China in June this year. Both sides reached broad consensus on enriching and deepening China-ROK strategic cooperative partnership and set the overall direction for the development of bilateral relations, which is of great significance. China-ROK relations now enjoy sound development. Both sides have become important cooperative partners and established regular dialogue mechanisms in all fields. China is ready to work with ROK to continue, by the spirit of mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit and win-win outcomes, from a longer-term perspective and with a more progressive attitude, to enhance understanding, deepen mutual trust, expand consensus and develop cooperation and to make the cake of common interests even bigger and better, so as to better benefit both peoples and to make new contributions to regional peace and development. Both sides should maintain exchanges and consultations at all levels and through various channels, strengthen communication and coordination, actively promote the China-ROK FTA negotiations, launch the mechanism of China-ROK Joint Committee on People-to-People and Cultural Exchanges as soon as possible and enhance non-governmental friendship.

Park Geun-hye expressed, I paid a successful state visit to China in June this year and ROK-China relations have moved to a new high. The ROK side is glad to see that the important consensus reached between President Xi Jinping and I is being actively implemented and that the official and non-governmental exchanges between the two countries are more active. The ROK hopes to continue to maintain high-level exchanges with China, to strengthen cooperation in all fields, to conclude the bilateral FTA negotiations at an early date, to vigorously promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and to keep close cooperation in international and regional affairs. The ROK supports China for hosting the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting next year.

The two heads of state as well exchanged views on the Korean Peninsula situation. Xi Jinping pointed out that over the past four months, the situation on the Peninsula has been gradually eased and ROK-DPRK relations have made some progress. China will continue to firmly support ROK and DPRK for improving relations, adhere to realizing the denuclearization of the Peninsula, adhere to safeguarding peace and stability on the Peninsula and adhere to resolving the issue through dialogue and consultations. Hope all parties concerned will work towards the same direction, build up consensus and create conditions to restart the six-party talks at an early date, so as to earnestly advance the denuclearization process of the Peninsula through dialogue and consultations rather than military confrontation. China is ready to maintain communication, coordination and cooperation with ROK.

Park Geun-hye introduced relevant positions of the ROK side and thanked for China's constructive role in pushing for improvement of ROK-DPRK relations and denuclearization of the Peninsula. She expressed that the ROK is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with China.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and others were present at the meeting.
