On April 1, 2016 local time, President Xi Jinping met in Washington D.C. with President Mauricio Macri of Argentina.

Xi Jinping pointed out that since China and Argentina established diplomatic relations over 40 years ago, both sides have pushed bilateral relations for sustained and stable development by always upholding the principles of sincerity, mutual trust, mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit and win-win cooperation. The two countries have established comprehensive strategic partnership, yielded fruitful results in bilateral cooperation in various fields including economy, trade, investment and agriculture and conducted colorful and active people-to-people and cultural exchanges. With China-Argentina friendship becoming a consensus in all circles of both countries, bilateral relations enjoy an increasing prominent strategic and comprehensive significance. China has been attaching great importance to the development of China-Argentina relations, and is ready to, together with the Argentine side, push for greater development in bilateral relations in the new era.

Xi Jinping stressed that China and Argentina, which enjoy many converging points in their development strategies, should combine each other's demands and make use of their complementary advantages, so as to constantly elevate bilateral relations. Both sides should intensify high-level contacts, actively carry out bilateral exchanges at all levels and in all fields, give full play to the role of existing dialogue and cooperation mechanisms and deepen exchanges and cooperation in all sectors. The two countries should fully tap their cooperation potential, expand cooperation in such areas as agriculture, infrastructure construction, finance, energy, mining industry and telecommunications, increase two-way trade and mutual investment, and actively explore cooperation in production capacity. As this year marks the China-Latin America Cultural Exchange Year, both sides should take it as an opportunity to expand bilateral exchanges in a host of areas such as culture, education, science and technology, youths and sports, and lift the level of bilateral cooperation in tourism. China supports the efforts made by Latin American nations including Argentina in coping with the virus diseases of Zika and Dengue fever. The two countries should intensify communication in major international issues and boost multilateral coordination. China welcomes President Mauricio Macri to attend the G20 Summit held by China in Hangzhou this September, and hopes Argentina to continue playing a positive role in China-Latin America overall cooperation.

Mauricio Macri noted that Argentina-China relations enjoy a sound momentum and huge development potential. Argentina is grateful to China for its vigorous support in infrastructure construction, financial stability, economic reforms and other aspects, and welcomes Chinese enterprises to increase their investment in such areas as ports, railways, roads and agriculture in Argentina. Argentina hopes both sides to expand exchanges and cooperation in areas such as infrastructure, finance, tourism, sports and people-to-people and cultural exchanges and is willing to provide more convenience in visa issuance for Chinese citizens. Argentina stands ready to enhance cooperation with China in international affairs, and will support China in hosting a successful G20 Summit in Hangzhou.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and others were present at the meeting.
