On the evening of January 20, 2016 local time, President Xi Jinping met with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi of Egypt at the Abdeen Palace in Cairo.

When Xi Jinping arrived, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi welcomed him at the parking place. The two heads of state jointly visited the Abdeen Palace.

The Abdeen Palace was in majestic splendor and resplendent lights at that night. Xi Jinping and Abdel Fattah al-Sisi talked as they walked, renewing the traditional friendship between China and Egypt and speaking glowingly of the future development of bilateral relations.

Xi Jinping stressed that though China and Egypt are separated by vast oceans, the two countries have close ties with each other and share good friendship of mutual trust. 60 years ago, the leaders of older generation of the two sides showed great foresight by establishing the contemporary China-Egypt diplomatic relations and opening diplomatic doors to Arab and African countries for the People's Republic of China. Over the past 60 years, we have adhered to mutual respect and support all the time and forged a profound friendship. The path a country or a nation would pursue cannot be separated from its historical and cultural traditions and the actual economic conditions, but should be explored independently by its own people with orderly advancement. China supports Egypt's efforts to maintain stability, develop economy and improve people's livelihood, and gives backing to the country to play a greater role in international and regional affairs. The Chinese side is ready to make joint efforts with Egypt to push forward the establishment of a more just and reasonable international order on the basis of mutual respect and mutual benefit. China and Egypt should carry forward their friendship and forge ahead into the future, letting the two peoples benefit more from the development of bilateral relations.

Abdel Fattah al-Sisi expressed that the friendship between Egypt and China was initiated by leaders of older generation of the two countries, including President Gamal Abdel Nasser, Chairman Mao Zedong and Premier Zhou Enlai. China-Egypt relations have been enjoying steady development since the establishment of diplomatic relations 60 years ago. Egypt admires the development achievements of China and is willing to learn from China's experience, deepen bilateral practical cooperation in all fields, and advance the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two sides in an all-around and in-depth manner.
