Chinese Ambassador-designate Xiao Jianguo Arrives in Brunei

On March 5, 2023, H.E. Mr. Xiao Jianguo, the newly-appointed Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam, arrived in Brunei to assume his post and delivered a written speech at the airport. Ambassador Xiao was welcomed by officials from the Department of Protocol & Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Darussalam and major diplomats from the Embassy at the airport.

Ambassador Xiao said in his written speech that it is a great pleasure and honor to be posted in the Abode of Peace and the Shining Pearl of Borneo, as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Brunei Darussalam. Today’s Brunei enjoys political stability and social harmony with its people gentle, kind and living a happy life, its economic development thriving and full of vitality. Furthermore, Brunei is now proactively promoting the economic diversification, and making steady progress towards Wawasan 2035. He believes that under the wise leadership of His Majesty, Brunei will continue to make continuous progress in its national development and expect a even broader prospect in the future.

Ambassador Xiao pointed out that, China and Brunei have thousands of years history of friendly exchanges. In recent years, with the care of President Xi Jinping and His Majesty the Sultan, the two countries have continuously deepened political mutual trust, expanded pragmatic cooperation, enhanced people-to-people and cultural exchanges, maintained good communication and coordination in international and regional affairs, maintaining a good momentum of development of bilateral relations and setting an example of harmonious coexistence, mutually beneficial and win-win interactions between countries of different sizes. In November last year, President Xi Jinping and His Majesty met in Bangkok, Thailand, reaching important consensus and pointing out the future direction of bilateral relations. While this year marks the 5th anniversary of China-Brunei Strategic Cooperative Partnership, the China-Brunei relations are standing at a new historical starting point and facing new opportunities for development. He is convinced that, under the strategic guidance of the heads of state and with joint efforts from both sides, the bilateral relations are sure to embrace ever broader prospects for development.

Ambassador Xiao stated that as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam, he takes his mission as a glory with great responsibility. Under the guidance of Bangkok consensus reached between the heads of both states, he will spare no efforts to further consolidate and strengthen the China-Brunei Strategic Cooperative Partnership, push forward the pragmatic cooperation in all fields, deepen the people-to-people exchanges and traditional friendship, and strengthen the communication and coordination in regional and international affairs, thus to promote bilateral relations to carry forward and forge into the future with a higher level, bringing more benefits to the two peoples.
