On the evening of July 27, 2022, Vice Foreign Minister Xie Feng attended upon invitation the reception hosted by the Guyanese Embassy in China to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Guyana, and met with Guyanese Ambassador to China Anyin Choo.

Xie Feng extended warm congratulations on the 50th anniversary of the establishment of China-Guyana diplomatic relations, and on behalf of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, expressed sincere thanks to people from all sectors who have long been committed to advancing the friendly exchanges between China and Guyana. Xie Feng said, China and Guyana, though oceans apart, enjoy a time-honored friendship. Guyana is the first English-speaking Caribbean country to establish diplomatic relations with China. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 50 years ago, China and Guyana have become friends with common aspirations, partners seeking common development, and brothers showing understanding and amity to each other. China-Guyana relations have become a model of equal treatment, mutual benefit and win-win cooperation between countries of different sizes. China and Guyana should continue to carry forward the traditional friendship and implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, and take the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties as an opportunity to build a closer China-Guyana community with a shared future.

Anyin Choo said, over the past 50 years, Guyana-China relations have grown and thrived on the basis of mutual respect, reciprocity and mutual benefit, and the one-China principle. Guyana appreciates China's long-term valuable assistance, especially the assistance in COVID-19 vaccines and other anti-pandemic supplies for Guyana. Guyana appreciates and supports the Belt and Road Initiative and the Global Development Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping. Guyana attaches great importance to developing relations with China, and is ready to continue to strengthen high-level exchanges between the two sides and deepen cooperation in various fields, so as to push bilateral friendly relations to a new level.
