Director-General Cai Wei of the Department of Latin American and Caribbean Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Briefs Journalists from CLACPC on the Spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress

On November 21, 2022, Director-General Cai Wei of the Department of Latin American and Caribbean Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had a meeting with journalists from the China-Latin America Press Centre (CLACPC) via video link.

When introducing the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress, Cai Wei noted that China has always been committed to its foreign policy goals of upholding world peace and promoting common development, and it is dedicated to promoting a community with a shared future for mankind. China is ready to continue to strengthen solidarity and cooperation with Latin American and the Caribbean countries (LAC countries) to jointly oppose hegemonism and power politics, firmly support and help countries in the region accelerate development, promote steady progress of the relations between China and LAC countries in the new era, and jointly build a China-LAC community with a shared future. Cai also took questions from the journalists on the visit of First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez to China, free trade negotiations between China and Uruguay, and China-Venezuela relations, among others.

The journalists from the CLACPC first thanked Director-General Cai Wei for introducing the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress and the current relations between China and LAC countries, and thanked the CLACPC for the warm hospitality and considerate arrangement. The journalists all said that through their 6-month coverage in China, they have come to a better understanding of China's national and social conditions on the ground and Chinese modernization, and have gained a fuller picture of the development of LAC-China relations featuring equality, mutual benefit, innovation, opening up, and benefits to the people. They will bring home what they have seen and heard in China and continue to make efforts to enhance mutual understanding and perception between the LAC and the Chinese people.

Cai Wei said that all the journalists have witnessed and actively covered the important and historic event of the 20th CPC National Congress throughout the whole process, and personally participated in the China International Import Expo, the World Internet Conference, the Forum on China and LAC: Dialogues between Civilizations, and other important events, walked the streets and lanes in Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangsu, and other provinces and municipalities, and made almost a thousand coverage reports. This endeavor deserves appreciation. He hopes that all the journalists, after returning to their countries, will continue to adhere to the independence and professionalism of journalism practitioners, and follow the principle of objective, comprehensive and just coverage, to present to the people of LAC countries an authentic, objective and multidimensional China that is developing, progressing and friendly.
