Foreign Ministries of China and Burundi Hold the Sixth Round of Political Consultation

On November 29, 2022, Director-General of the Department of African Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Wu Peng and Burundi's Assistant Minister Syldie Manirerekana held the sixth round of political consultation between the foreign ministries of the two countries via video link. The two sides exchanged views on China-Burundi relations and practical cooperation, as well as the meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and regional issues of common interest and concern.

Wu Peng briefed on the great achievements and far-reaching significance of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and said that with General Secretary Xi Jinping at the helm, the Chinese people will advance the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization on the new journey of building a modern socialist country in all respects. Wu stressed that Burundi is China's all-weather friend and all-round partner, and appreciated Burundi's consistent and strong support on issues concerning China's core interests and major concerns. The Chinese Foreign Ministry is ready to strengthen cooperation with Burundi's Foreign Ministry, jointly implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state during their phone conversation, actively implement the outcomes of the Dakar meeting of the FOCAC, and take China-Burundi relations to a higher level.

On behalf of the Burundian side, Manirerekana extended warm congratulations on the success of the 20th CPC National Congress and President Xi Jinping's re-election as General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee. He spoke highly of Burundi-China relations and thanked China for its important contributions to Burundi's economic and social development over the years. Manirerekana praised the pragmatic and efficient cooperation between the two countries, and expressed readiness to strengthen communication and coordination with China to further push for greater development of Burundi-China relations.
