On March 14, 2023, Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Xue Bing visited Ethiopia, and met with State Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia Misganu Arega. Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia Zhao Zhiyuan attended the event.

Special Envoy Xue Bing elaborated on China’s “Two Sessions” of the National People’s Congress and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and exchanged in-depth views with Ethiopia on China-Ethiopia relations, implementation of the “Outlook on Peace and Development in the Horn of Africa”, the situation in the Horn of Africa, and other topics. Misganu Arega expressed warm congratulations on the convening of the “Two Sessions” and President Xi Jinping’s unanimous re-election, and said that Ethiopia is ready to constantly deepen the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries, continue to actively participate in the implementation of the Outlook, and stands ready to work with China to make contributions to enduring peace and security in the Horn of Africa and the building of an even closer China-Africa community with a shared future.

During his visit, Special Envoy Xue Bing held a media briefing at the Chinese Embassy in Ethiopia, and exchanged with think-tank scholars on the implementation of the Outlook, Ethiopia’s domestic peace process, China-related debt of African countries and other issues.
