Assistant Foreign Minister Nong Rong Attends Forum on Developing Countries and International Law

On July 24, 2023, Assistant Foreign Minister Nong Rong attended and addressed the Forum on Developing Countries and International Law.

Nong Rong pointed out that developing countries are an important force on the international stage, and have made unique contribution to the development of international relations and international law. Faced with new situations and new challenges, developing countries should adhere to multilateralism, firmly safeguard international order underpinned by international law, and oppose undermining the international rule of law with house rules. Developing countries should promote universal security, jointly safeguard world peace and stability, and take a clear-cut stand to practice the United Nations Charter. Developing countries should promote win-win cooperation to allow development gains to better trickle down to people of all countries. Developing countries should promote dialogue on rule of law to advance harmonious coexistence and development of different cultures of law. Developing countries should jointly make good use of international law to tell right from wrong, defend peace, seek development, and promote cooperation. China will always be a member of the developing world, and will firmly implement the Global Security Initiative, the Global Development Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative, jointly increase the representation and say of developing countries in the fields of global governance, and join hands to create a more promising future.

Former Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand Surakiart Sathirathai, former Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Liu Zhenmin, Director-General of the Department of Treaty and Law of the Foreign Ministry Ma Xinmin, Secretary-General of the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization Kamalinne Pinitpuvadol, and former Secretary for Justice of Hong Kong Teresa Cheng, among others, made remarks and called for strengthening solidarity and cooperation among developing countries to actively participate in setting international rules, and jointly promote international law to reflect more appeals of developing countries, so as to better demonstrate common values of humanity of peace, development, equity, justice, democracy and freedom.

The Forum on Developing Countries and International Law was co-hosted by the Chinese Society of International Law, the Asian Academy of International Law, and Wuhan University. More than 200 delegates from Asian and African countries attended the forum.
