On April 6, 2023, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang met in Beijing with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.

Qin Gang said that President Xi Jinping’s attendance at the first China-Arab States Summit and the China-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit and hist state visit to Saudi Arabia toward the end of last year were great success. Not long ago, President Xi Jinping had a phone call with Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, charting the course for the development of China-Saudi Arabia relations in the next stage. It is important that the two sides earnestly act upon the common understandings reached between the leaders of two countries, continue to firmly support each other in safeguarding respective core interests, and deliver on the implementation plan for synergizing the Belt and Road Initiative and Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, so as to achieve more fruitful outcomes in bilateral cooperation. The two sides should also make joint effort to upgrade China-Arab states and China-GCC cooperation, and work all out to build a China-Arab community with a shared future in the new era, continuously strengthen the China-GCC strategic partnership, and build a China-GCC free trade zone as soon as possible.

Qin Gang noted that China supports Saudi Arabia in playing a greater role in international and regional affairs, congratulates Saudi Arabia on becoming a dialogue partner of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and supports Saudi Arabia in joining the BRICS at an early date. China is ready to work with Saudi Arabia to uphold true multilateralism, constantly increase the voice and influence of developing countries in international affairs, and jointly uphold the trend toward a multipolar world.

Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud said that last year, President Xi Jinping paid a historic visit to Saudi Arabia and successfully attended the first China-Arab States Summit and the China-GCC Summit, the significance and influence of which have gone far beyond bilateral scope. Saudi Arabia is ready to follow through on the important common understandings reached between leaders of the two countries and the initiatives of the summits, work together with China to promote new and greater achievements in Saudi Arabia-China, Arab states-China and GCC-China cooperation, and support the early signing of the free trade agreement between the GCC and China. Saudi Arabia firmly upholds the one-China principle, and resolutely opposes external interference in China's internal affairs. This position of Saudi Arabia will not change.

Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud said that Saudi Arabia and China have a high degree of common understandings on international and regional affairs. He thanked China for its strong support for Saudi Arabia in joining the SCO as a dialogue partner, and looks forward to strengthening solidarity with China to jointly safeguard the basic norms of international law including sovereign equality and non-interference in others’ internal affairs.
