On May 15, 2023, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi met with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó in Beijing.

Wang Yi appreciated Hungary’s friendly policy toward China, saying that it serves the interests of Hungary and its people, as well as the common interests of China and Europe, and also meets the trend of the times. A developing and strong China is a growing force for peace and an increasing factor for global stability. Noting that Hungary has always viewed China’s development in an objective and friendly light, Wang Yi said the two sides, with mutual respect, mutual trust, mutual understanding and mutual support, have brought bilateral relations into the best period in history.

Wang Yi pointed out that China supports Europe’s strategic autonomy and that reviving the Cold War mentality and creating bloc confrontation are detrimental to Europe’s long-term development. China is ready to work with Hungary and other EU member states to jointly uphold true multilateralism, promote greater democracy in international relations, and make the global governance system more just and equitable.

Péter Szijjártó said that the Hungary-China strategic cooperative partnership has achieved sustained and in-depth development and positive results. Hungary appreciates China’s efforts to seek a political settlement of the Ukraine crisis. Cooperation between Hungary and China, as well as between the EU and China, presents opportunities rather than risks. Hungary welcomes more investment from China and stands ready to work with China to further enhance cooperation in various fields and take bilateral relations to new heights.
