On May 13th, 2022, Ambassador Huang Zheng met with T.H. Florencio Singkoro Harper, Floor Leader of the 22nd Congress of the FSM. Counselor Zhang Weitao, Deputy Chief of Mission, among others, attended the meeting.

Ambassador Huang briefed T.H. Harper about Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy, the concept of whole-process people’s democracy, recent development of China-FSM relations and progress of cooperation in various fields between the two countries. Ambassador Huang stressed that One-China Principle is the fundamental bedrock of China-FSM relations. Ambassador Huang said, China’s international development cooperation has always been following the principles of equality, mutual benefit, openness and sustainability. China’s assistance to Pacific island countries, including the FSM, aims at building a China-Pacific Island Countries community with a shared future, therefore it is the sincerest and most selfless one. Ambassador Huang noted, the Congress plays a significant role in FSM politics and social activities. Exchanges between Chinese and FSM legislatures is an important part of our bilateral relations. China stands ready to make concerted efforts with the FSM to implement the important consensus reached between Presidents of our two countries during their meeting in Beijing, strengthen friendly exchanges and cooperation at various levels between China’s National People’s Congress and the Congress of the FSM, so as to advance and substantiate the China-FSM Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. 

T.H. Harper said his view on FSM-China relations has much in common with Ambassador Huang’s and expressed gratitude for the large amount of sincere and selfless assistance provided by China to the FSM for a long time. He noted that he and the FSM government as well as the FSM Congress will firmly abide by the One-China Principle as always, actively enhance friendly exchanges and cooperation between the FSM Congress and China’s National People’s Congress, learn from China’s experience with state governance, deepen bilateral political mutual trust, and contribute to the FSM-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and “Great Friendship”.
