Special Envoy on Afghan Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yue Xiaoyong Visits Turkmenistan

On November 14, 2022, Special Envoy on Afghan Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yue Xiaoyong visited Turkmenistan, and held talks with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan V. Hajyiev. The two sides exchanged views on the Afghan issue.

Yue Xiaoyong briefed the Turkmenistan side on  the guiding principles of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and the missions, tasks, and overarching policies of the CPC on the new journey in the new era. Yue Xiaoyong said that China and Turkmenistan are both important neighboring countries of Afghanistan, and China appreciates Afghanistan-related policies and measures of Turkmenistan, attaches importance to the unique role and influence of Turkmenistan, and stands ready to strengthen bilateral and multilateral coordination with Turkmenistan on Afghanistan, so as to contribute to peace, stability, and reconstruction in Afghanistan and help Afghanistan realize sound governance at an early date.

Hajyiev spoke highly of the important outcomes and significance of the 20th CPC National Congress, and appreciated that China has played a positive and constructive role on the Afghan issue. Hajyiev said that Turkmenistan, as a strategic partner of China and an important neighboring country of Afghanistan, is ready to maintain close communication and exchanges with China, make good use of the coordination and cooperation mechanism among neighbors of Afghanistan and other platforms, and take more substantive and effective actions to help Afghanistan achieve lasting peace and stability and economic development at an early date.

During his visit, Yue Xiaoyong also gave an interview to Turkmenistan Altyn Asyr.
