On the evening of November 22, local time, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin held small-scale talks in Constantine Palace, St. Petersburg. Wen also attended a welcome banquet hosted by Putin.

Wen said that since this year, the two countries have kept frequent high-level exchanges, maintained close communication and coordination in major international and regional issues and made new progress in some key cooperation projects. With the organization of a series of cultural activities including the language year programs, China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination has developed to an unprecedentedly high level. This is in line with the fundamental interests of both countries and their peoples, contributes vigorously to world peace and promotes development of both countries, Wen said. "I hope to inject new vigor into the comprehensive deepening of Sino-Russian strategic partnership of coordination through my visit," said the Chinese premier.

Putin said that Russia attaches great importance to the strategic partnership of coordination with China and expressed his satisfaction with the development of the ties. At present, both economies are facing rare opportunities of development and therefore cooperation between Russia and China is conducive to economic revitalization of both countries, said Putin. He expressed the hope that both countries would make concerted efforts to ensure that bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation can bear more fruit.

The two leaders also exchanged in-depth views on promoting cooperation in key sectors.

Vice Premier Wang Qishan, State Councilor Liu Yandong and other officials attended the above activities.
